The Wellness Community-DE, Party Update, Weekend Races
Partnership with The Wellness Community - Delaware
PCVRC is pleased to announce its new partnership with The Wellness Community Delaware. The Wellness Community provides cancer support, education and hope. Fundraising efforts include local 5K races and programs for runners and walkers to participate in marathons throughout the USA.
We intend to publicize each other's events in hopes of increasing our club membership and spreading the word about The Wellness Community. Cancer survivors, their running program alumni and staff will join us at our Wednesday group runs. Their website is http://www.WellnessDelaware.org. In particular, we'll be seeking volunteers to assist at "Logan House Road to the Super Bowl 5K" on January 3, which, of course, benefits The Wellness Community. More info to come.
Wednesday 6 p m Group Runs continue
Don't forget that club members and anyone else are invited to run (walkers are welcome too) on the lighted 1.75 mile path at Delcastle Rec Area every week, regardless of weather. We always meet at the "start/finish line" near the tennis court parking entrance, before and after. More people = more fun.
Holiday Party Wednesday, Dec 16
We hope to have a good crowd, including many new members. Mark your calendar if you haven't already! If you know someone who should join the club, bring them along! Note: This is Wednesday (not Thursday).
In addition to the food, drink and festivities, this occasion will be a good time to: renew your membership for 2010; pick up your club tee-shirt if you are a newer member, but haven't yet gotten one; purchase club running apparel; make your nominations for running awards.
This year the food will be free to both members and non-members although contributions for non-members are appreciated.
Early registration opportunities
It was only a couple weeks ago I sent out a warning about registering as soon as possible for the Boston Marathon. By this past weekend, it had already filled up and several club members missed registering for it. With that in mind, here are two other popular events to pay attention to if you want to register or get in at the right price:
Caesar Rodney Half Marathon: Early registration is $40, going to $50 on Feb. 1 and $60 on March 1.
The 5K has similar rate increases. For more info, go to: http://www.mrsnv.com/evt/home.jsp?id=2774.
Marine Corps Marathon: Yes, it was just a couple weeks ago, but it's not too early to mark your calendar for noon on April 7 is you want to enter "the People's Marathon" next Oct. 31. This past year, an average of 91.6 runners registered per minute in the first hour registration opened. That's over 5,400 in the first hour of limited field of 30,000. Two other ways to gain MCM entry: Complete the Run 2 Register 10K in Quantico, Va. on March 27 or visit select MCM booths at certain marathon expos and get the access code. See the MCM website for details: http://www.marinemarathon.com/Marine_Corps_Marathon.htm.
Good luck to the upcoming weekend participants in the Philadelphia Marathon, Half Marathon or Rothman 8K, which together comprise the last event in the MA-USATF road series for 2009, and to the participants in the Rehoboth Seashore Marathon and Half-Marathon.
