Ray Christensen, a resident of Wilmington, started running in 2002 at the age of 40.
Prior to that, he had
only jogged a few times each year. Enticed by a newspaper article explaining Arthritis Foundation's "Joints In Motion"
program, he began training for the Dublin Marathon. Group runs and teammates made running fun, so it soon became
a major part of his life.
The following year, he learned that PCVRC was gathering novice runners for weekly training runs to
prepare for the Philadelphia Distance Run. He began running with them on a regular basis.
The group soon became known as the Rebel Runners and was now coordinating weekday short runs and weekend
long runs. Members trained for different events.
Eventually, the idea of a group trip took shape and 14 Rebels took a memorable trip to France for the 2004 Paris Marathon.
Ray qualified for Boston later that year in Chicago, largely due to the confidence gained from running with dedicated companions.
As of April 2013, he has completed 22 marathons.
The Rebel Runners are a special group and Ray decided to write an eBook titled
"Run With Me: How To Start, Improve, or Join a Running Club" to help other people experience the support,
motivation and fun that you can have while keeping fit, achieving your goals, and enjoying food and beverages!
Ray re-designed this site in February 2007 to upgrade it and try to help PCVRC better reach out to the local running community.
Visit his Marathon Man website for photos and descriptions
of events from Paris to New York to Alaska. Ray is single and when not running, works as a freelance website designer and
a USANA Associate, distributing the Vitamins and Supplements that
improve his running performance. See his RunningMyRaces.com site
to view nationwide database of races.
